DENVER (May 9, 2022) – Novitas Communications, a nationally award-winning firm that partners with clients to bolster corporate communication, crisis communication, and issue management capabilities, announced today the strategic hire of John (Chip) Taylor. Chip brings over three decades of experience in organizational leadership and public affairs to Novitas Communications.

Beginning as a lawyer in his early career, Chip quickly worked to become an expert in issue management and government relations. His work focused primarily on tax, finance, election, and education law, including implementation of the TABOR and Great Outdoors Colorado constitutional amendments.

“Chip is known for his ability to build positive and influential relationships externally in Colorado’s business community as well as to foster enviable working environments,” said Michelle Lyng, president and CEO of Novitas. “Our expertise in legislative communications and litigation communications will only continue to grow with Chip’s extensive background in public affairs. We look forward to extending our broad portfolio of communications and media relations with Chip as our vice president.”

He spent over 20 years as a policy manager at Colorado Counties, Inc. (CCI), a non-profit membership association that advocates on behalf of Colorado’s county commissioners, ultimately serving for 8 years as CCI’s executive director, elevating the visibility and influence of Colorado’s counties regionally and nationally, and acting as a leader to Coloradans statewide.

Additionally, Chip served as the county administrator for Ouray County in 1998 and 1999, and as executive director of the county insurance pools, CTSI, until 2022.

“Michelle and Novitas’ talented team have already established themselves as a PR powerhouse in Colorado.  As the new VP, I am excited to add to Novitas’ capacity to serve their clients and to help sustain the company’s ongoing growth,” he said.

He received both his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and law degree from Pepperdine University and practiced civil litigation in southern California before moving to Colorado in 1992.

Michelle Lyng founded Novitas Communications as a one-woman shop in 2008, offering media relations, issue management, crisis communications, strategic marketing, and public education campaigns to clients across the globe. Novitas helps clients craft and implement communications campaigns that influence public opinion, enhance brand recognition, and keep stakeholders informed. The company is always continuing to build relationships in Denver and outside of the metro area, advancing strategic communications work across the world.

Just last month, Novitas Communications was ranked as the top public relations firm in Colorado by O’Dwyer’s, and as the second fastest growing agency in the nation.

Chip is looking forward to the opportunity to apply his legal, policy, communications, and management experience to the needs of Novitas’ growing client base. He plans to assist the company in their rapid growth and expansion plans, by compounding new business initiatives, mentoring team members and overseeing day-to-day activities for clients.

Novitas Communications will also welcome Jasmin Chan as our newest associate in June. She will graduate from American University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science this month.
