Denver public relations firm recognized for its creative vision and execution in an advertisement opposing Proposition 112 in Colorado

DENVER (April 4, 2019) – Spirit of Colorado, a Novitas Communications client and Colorado independent expenditure committee that was stood up to oppose Proposition 112, the 2018 ballot initiative that would have destroyed state’s the oil and gas industry, received a 2019 Pollie Award for Television – Ballot Initiative Division (Bilingual/Multilingual/Foreign Language). The national honor recognized the excellence of Spirit of Colorado’s touching portrayal of Raul Sanchez, a welder in Greeley, Colo., whose family and livelihood depend on the oil and gas industry.

The Pollie Awards are hosted by the American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC), the only bipartisan, non-profit organization for political consultants and public affairs professionals.

Novitas wrote the ad, as well as helped produce and direct “Raul dice votar no on 112.” The ad was filmed and edited by Reel Politics in partnership with the Independence Institute. Virginia Garcia Pivik provided Spanish-language translation and context.

“We were honored to have the opportunity to share Raul Sanchez’s story, as it embodies the dignity of work and helps define the frontier spirit of our state,” said Novitas Communications founder and president Michelle Lyng. “‘Raul Dice Votar No on 112,’ was never intended to be an explicitly political ad, but rather one that underscores the wide-ranging ramifications of extreme public policy.

“Raul was a unique voice in the fight to defeat Proposition 112 in Colorado, and his livelihood remains worthy of honoring and protecting today, even as current legislation at the State Capitol seeks to undermine it. We are honored to receive a Pollie Award for sharing Raul’s story, and we will continue to honor those who work hard every day to carve out their own slice of the American Dream.”

The Pollie Awards and Campaign Excellence Gala was held on Thursday, April 4, 2019 in Napa, California. Novitas’ latest recognition follows the firm’s 2019 Reed Award for the same advertisement in February.
